The room Light leads Matt to is a bar, which has been abandoned every time he's checked it. It's pure curiosity: something a little familiar. Heading to the counter - which is immaculate, as if someone scrubbed it down before walking out - he peeks behind there and steals a bottle of orange juice before looking back to her.

[As he draws his knees up to rest on them, he looks a bit chagrined; he's acting.]

There's a particular type of nightclub you can go to where you can make a lot of money in an hour selling, um. Aspirin. It's not illegal, in the strictest sense. Not strictly safe, either.

Seems like a shitty way to get high. All asprin ever does to me is makes me want to throw up and puts me to sleep.

And you can die, if you inhale it. But only an idiot would try that.

No, the idea is that it doesn't have an effect - but there are plenty of people willing to think it does. Schoolchildren, especially. As long as you're out of the city, and don't go back...

[He shrugs.]

What about you? A law you broke. But - [lifting a finger] - something representative.

I've done much harder drugs than asprin.

[The wren wings bat behind him like the blades of a fan.]

[At that, he laughs sideways, almost over his shoulder; knowing nothing, he still doesn't believe it.]

[That - that catches his eye, and he laughs out loud for the first time, genuinely amused - and, weirdly, flattered. There's something in it he recognises.]

And that's going to save the world, is it? Hope you can get him to bleach himself to death?

No, but I could smear the shower head with an acid with a strong pH and guarantee that you'd be in it.

Or hydrofluoric, in the shower head. He wouldn't know until it was melting his bones.

[Just as sweet, except there's an intrigue to it. He's not within reach of Matt's perch.]

Really, what I learned? Is how arrogant he is. It's easy to trick someone that fucking self-satisfied.

[Something about that makes him panic; the drab wings hop into a blur of escape, and Light darts upwards, clinging to a perch above hers. There's no audible hiss; perhaps the wings drown it.]

Maybe you didn't trick him. Maybe he knew all along.

[Launching out again, taking the perch above him.]

[Swinging up to a perch on a level with hers, resting his feet on it.]

[She pushes her hair out of her face.]

I don't know if I'm going back.
